Vandy's is located in the Statesboro mall. This local restaurant is known for their BBQ and I had to find out for myself what it's like. I ordered the Large Barbeque Plate (8.99). This meal came with brunswick stew, a side (I chose fries), bread, and a good portion of barbeque topped with their in house sauce.
I'm going to start off by talking about their fries. These were some of the best fries I've had in the city of Statesboro. They managed to have a crunchy exterior, without tasting overly fried. I could actually taste a good amount of potato in each fry.
The Brunswick stew was very good. I don't have a good measure as far as brunswick stews go, but this is one I would go back for. It had a bold flavor and a nice meaty texture.
Now for the main course, the BBQ itself. The meat was cooked to a perfect consistency, and had a subtle smoky flavor, which is a good thing in my book. The BBQ gets most of it's flavor from the sauce, which is quite good, it was very tangy and went well with the smoky flavors of the meat.. If your preferences lean towards the sweeter side when it comes to barbeque sauce, you may be turned off by this south carolina style sauce.
Overall: I would go again.
